Students Learn Native American Culture

Our 5th grade classes welcomed Mr. Eugene Fracek to discuss Native Americans, their history, culture and experiences for students to understand more about ownership, federal recognition and sovereignty issues and society today.  His visit allowed students to learn a variety of issues where they can be a global citizen and choose to take action with concerns for Native American Rights.

Mr. Eugene Fracek is an enrolled member of the Rosebud Sioux Tribe in South Dakota and grew up on the Rosebud Indian Reservation in South Dakota.  There he became the Indian Resource Teacher for the Rapid City School District and served as Indian Education Director for the State of South Dakota.

In 1990, after moving to Des Moines, Mr Fracek was an elementary school principal and currently teaches classes at Simpson College on Indians. Eugene Fracek invites understanding and relationship building with Indians. He is a storyteller and singer.

Thank you, Mr. Fracek and AmeriCorp, for arranging his visit.
