About

Hubbell Elementary School, situated at the confluence of five neighborhood associations and adjacent to Roosevelt High School, The Des Moines Playhouse Theatre, and the Shops at Roosevelt, is a neighborhood asset. With a proud history spanning 100 years in the same architecturally rich structure, Hubbell has successfully served the families of this diverse neighborhood for several generations. Our school is positioned along a growing urban recreation trail, is in the heart of the Roosevelt Cultural District, and serves as a neighborhood gathering spot, educational beacon, and architectural icon.

Our school prides itself on strong student achievement, engaged parental support, and a broad liberal arts curriculum that builds upon the cultural opportunities inherent in our eclectic neighborhood. Hubbell acts as the conduit for students, families, and staff to celebrate the cultural and ethnic diversity present in our fine city.

Utilizing $3.5 million dollars of local option sales tax money, Hubbell Elementary School received a full restoration during the 2003-2004 school year, including the removal of a 1970’s era addition, a total redesign of our exterior recreation spaces, restoring all classrooms to original height ceilings and windows, and the addition of several community access elements. In August 2007 Hubbell received a $1.8 million building addition that included a new cafe, gym, and two classrooms.
