Hello, my name is Emily Bash and I am the Art teacher here at Hubbell Elementary. I graduated from Grand View University in 2000 with degrees in Fine Arts and K-12 Art Education. I have been teaching in Des Moines since 2001 at Meredith Middle School, Wallace and Park Avenue Elementary and now I am joining the wonderful team at Hubbell. I am so excited to share my love and knowledge of Art with your child and showcase their work on our virtual art gallery www.artsonia.com/schools/Hubbell1.
Hello, my name is Darcy Hankenson and I am the Library Associate here at Hubbell Elementary. I studied at both Iowa State University and the University of Iowa where I studied English, Language, and Theatre. Before I came to Hubbell Elementary, I was a Human Resources manager. Next, I led the charmed life of a stay at home mom with my two (now Hubbell alumni) children. In 2011, I joined the Hubbell team as a special education associate. In January of 2014, I had the good fortune to move to this beautiful Library. It is my favorite room in the school. It always has been. I hope it is a favorite of your children, too. Stop by anytime. Everyone is welcome in the Library, even the Hubbell Ghost.
Welcome to music at Hubbell! I am excited to be joining the Hubbell Hawk community! Prior to teaching at Hubbell, I was vocal director at Roosevelt High School since 2011. I graduated from Carnegie Mellon University with a B.F.A. in Vocal Performance and Music Education Certification K-12. I look forward to providing excellent opportunities for every student to succeed in music and look forward to all the choir concerts this year. I also teach private voice lessons. I love music and theatre, going to see shows, performing, and spending time with my husband, friends, and family.
I look forward to nurturing your student’s musical skills and talents!

Hola! My name is Jennifer Rodriguez and I am the Spanish teacher at Hubbell for all students grades K-5. I graduated with my teaching degree from Grandview College in Des Moines with an endorsement in K-6 foreign language in 2006. I then moved to Mexico and started my teaching career by teaching English as a foreign language. I taught at two different bilingual private schools where the first language of all students was Spanish. When I returned to the United States, I taught Spanish as a long-term sub at Hoover High School for one semester. Then I got my position at Hubbell for the 2008-2009 school year and have been enjoying my position here at Hubbell ever since!
